Ruby does come with an interactive command line, accessible via the 'irb' command. Playing around in irb is a great way to learn Ruby.

There is also the ruby-debug gem which could help troubleshoot things along the way. A quick Google search should turn up a bunch of tutorials on how to use it.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the pointers to irb and ruby-debug. I thought it would be in there somewhere. I use the Python command prompt as a calculator as well as for debug and investigating objects. Irb looks like just what I was after.
