There are some alternatives out there for the other OSs.

I've been using Launchy for Windows: http://www.launchy.net/

And Gnome Do for Linux: http://do.davebsd.com/

Launchy isn't quite there, but it's a start. Gnome Do is almost the same as Quicksilver from my experience (some say better).

sounds bombzilla - i am dling launchy now to give it a try - the closest vista has built in is the search bar at the bottom of the start menu

If you like the command line, you might like ratpoison and gnu screen.
